Flood of Memories: Annual Teton Dam Flood Commemoration Event
On June 5, 1976, the newly completed Teton Dam in Southeast Idaho collapsed, releasing 80 billion gallons of water into the Snake River Valley. Turbulent floodwaters raged on for three days and traveled over 100 miles devastating homes, towns, families and farms.
Join us at Rexburg's Romance Theater on June 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM, as we pause to remember the incredible destruction and inspiring the recovery from the 1976 flood disaster. This year's gathering features special guest filmmaker Paul Jenkins, who captured important footage of the destruction as it was happening. He will comment on his unique vantage point and offer insights on the film, Three Days in June. Following the showing of the nostalgic flood film, community members will have a chance to share and record their own personal memories of that fateful day.
Every story we hear of the Teton Dam flood is unique and important; sharing these experiences helps us better understand what happened and appreciate the resilience of our community.
Presented by the Museum of Rexburg. Admission is free.
